Microsoft once again makes available Windows 10 version 1511 available for download using Media Creation Tool. If you’ve been following the last couple days, the software giant recently, out of the blue, pulled the November update from its site without much explanation.
Then the company issued a statement saying that it has decided that future installs should be through Windows Update. Explanation that didn’t make a lot sense after the Microsoft officials previously recommended users to use this alternative to move to version 1511 more quickly.
Today, however, it’s a different story, Microsoft is now issuing a new statement backtracking the previous plans, giving users a better explanation, and restating the Windows 10 November update availability through the Media Creation Tool.
In the statement, the software maker explains that in reality it had to pulled out the update due to a bug that caused some settings preferences not to be preserved after installing Windows 10 version 1511.
“Recently we learned of an issue that could have impacted an extremely small number of people who had already installed Windows 10 and applied the November update. Once these customers installed the November update, a few of their settings preferences may have inadvertently not been retained. For these customers, we will restore their settings over the coming days and we apologize for the inconvenience. We worked to resolve the issue as quickly as possible – it will not impact future installs of the November update, which is available today.”
Microsoft has also released a new update described as KB3120677, which replaces update KB3118754, and addresses the bug that caused the company to remove the November update from the Media Creation Tool bringing Windows 10 to version 10586.14.
The bug basically turned on four settings by default if the end-user turned off manually:
Let apps use my advertising ID
Turn on SmartScreen Filter for web content
Let apps run in the background
Sync with devices

While the problem now seemed to be resolved by making available the ISO files to do a clean install or in-place upgrade of Windows 10 version 1511 using the Media Creation Tool, Microsoft could have been more clear on communicating to users as today’s statement contradicts the original reason to the decision on pulling out the update.
